Learning Chinese: Matching Game (1)

11/20/2013

For most Chinese language (Mandarin) learners, the biggest challenge is not pronouncing a word, but rather pronouncing a word in the correct tone. There are four basic tones in Chinese Mandarin and in many cases, the intonation and sound affects the meaning. As people learn phonetic symbols to manage English, you will have to be familiar with Pinyin, a writing system that uses the Latin alphabet to indicate pronunciation of each character, for learning Chinese well.

Here Acadsoc have prepared some Chinese learning games to our Mandarin learners, the levels of which proceed from easy to hard. There are three columns below: the meaning of the word in English, Pinyin, and simplified Chinese character(s), respectively. The meanings, pinyin and characters are in disorder. Try to match each English explanation with the correct Pinyin and character(s). The answer is given at the end of this page.
